Interin govt called on to reconsider tax
After the interim government announced through the 2008 national budget, that 25% turnover tax will be levied on all betting transactions from next year, Company's Acting Manager Vijen Sundar says they are faced with a major dilemma.
Sundar revealed that they have made a submission to the interim government to seriously reconsider its new policy and perhaps impose 5 or 10% tax as they cannot afford to pay the 25%.
He says the last option that they will have is to close down all their operations in Fiji if their request does not come through.
Ministry of Finance Permanent Secretary Peceli Vocea confirmed to Legend FM news that they received the submission from Grants Waterhouse and the interim Cabinet has discussed the issue in the last meeting. He says he is unaware if any decision has been made on the matter.
Interim Finance Minister Mahendra Chaudhry could not be reached for a comment.
