Ousted Prime Minister Laisenia Qarase believes that the interim government is working against the constitution by scrapping the affirmative action programme for Indigenous Fijians.
Qarase said that his SDL led government was just following the constitution which has affirmative action provisions in it, to cater for education, housing, work in the civil service and business and access to land.
Qarase added that it is unfortunate that these changes have taken place or will take place since the disadvantaged will now miss out.
However the interim government has said that the affirmative action programme has not been scrapped. It said they have only opened up the programme to all the disadvantaged people from all the communities and ensuring that only the poor benefit from the programme.
