Interim Prime Minister Commodore Frank Bainimarama has expressed appreciation to His Excellency Sir Michael Somare, Prime Minister of Papua New Guinea, for his $1 million contribution by his government towards the PM’s Relief and Rehabilitation Fund account.

Commodore Bainimarama said that on behalf of the people of Fiji, he would like to convey to the PNG government his heartfelt appreciation for the contribution of $1 million towards the PM's Relief account.

Bainimarama said that the donation will certainly go a long way in the rehabilitation efforts to those who were affected in rebuilding their lives after the devastation damages by the flood.

He also expressed his sincere gratitude for the intervention by Somare at the Pacific Islands Forum Leaders meeting last month at PNG on behalf of Fiji and the continuing work done in the background to enable a better understanding of the situation in Fiji by the Forum member countries.

The donation by PNG was received by Interim Defense Minister Ratu Epeli Ganilau on behalf of the Interim PM.
