Interim Prime Minister, Commodore Frank Bainimarama has stressed that the Methodist Church's proposed ban on Sunday trading for all towns and cities will not go ahead as majority of the people in the country oppose the idea.
Commodore Bainimarama said the church executives are just going backwards by calling for the Sunday ban.
The Methodist Church of Fiji has resolved to request all town and city councils around the country to ensure that no business is permitted to open on Sunday and any other day significant in the Christian calendar.
Members of the church attending the conference in Naduri, Macuata endorsed that Divisional Superintendents will now write to the town and city councils to respect the Sabbath by banning Sunday trading, including all major sales on Sundays.
The Church will also request that no trading be allowed on other Christian holidays, like Easter and Christmas.
