Interim Prime Minister, Commodore Frank Bainimarama said the events of December 5th occurred due to increasing racist policies by the Qarase government which was fuelling racial hatred.
Following Qarase's comments that corruption was not the main reason for the overthrow of his government, Commodore Bainimarama said one of their main concerns was the incitement of racial hatred and divisive policies which started to increase after last year's elections.
Qarase had said upon his return from Lau over the weekend that there was something else that cause the military to take the action on December 5th.
He said that corruption was definitely not the main reason for taking such action.
