The Interim Prime Minister has pledged his support to the work done by the Kidney Foundation of Fiji and Kidney Dialysis Center which recently brought in new dialysis machines for the kidney center.

On the occasion of World Kidney Day today Commodore Frank Bainimarama wrote a letter to President of International Federation of Kidney Foundation Professor Eberhard Ritz and congratulated the foundation for launching the International Campaign to increase awareness on the importance of our kidneys to our lives and to make people realize that kidney diseases are common, harmful and treatable.

Commodore Bainimarama said Fiji's main challenges were a general ignorance of kidney diseases and lack of health facilities for the treatment of kidney patients which results in more than 200 deaths from kidney diseases every year.

He added that government will do everything possible to assist the center to continue to function and possibly expand its services to Western and Northern Divisions.

Meanwhile, the Indian High Commissioner will officially open the Kidney Foundation of Fiji's first ever Dialysis Center in Suva this hour.
