Interim Prime Minister Commodore Frank Bainimarama left today for an official visit to the Middle East.

Permanent Secretary at the PM Office, Parmesh Chand said this will be Commodore Bainimarama's first visit to the Middle East in his capacity as Prime Minister.

He said currently there are more than 600 Fiji soldiers serving in Sinai and Iraq and this will enable the PM to meet them, obtain first hand briefing and encourage them in their peace keeping duties.

Commodore Bainimarama will be the 3rd PM of Fiji to ever have taken an official tour of duty to the Middle East. Previously, two of Fiji's PM has visited soldiers in Sinai they were Ratu Sir Kamisese Mara and Major General Sitiveni Rabuka.

His first stop will be Sudan then Sinai before completing his visit in Iraq. He is accompanied by Mrs. Bainimarama, his Personal Secretary Captain Aseri Rokoura and a body guard.

Interim Foreign Affairs Minister Ratu Epeli Nailatikau is acting as Interim PM in Commodore Bainimarama's absence.
