Interim Prime Minister, Commodore Frank Bainimarama maintains that the Chief Executive of Fiji Islands Revenue and Customs Authority, Tevita Banuve has to resign from his post.
Following FIRCA Officers and Staff Association General Secretary, Kenneth Zinck's comments that they view the call for the resignation of Banuve as disgraceful, the Interim PM said everything would be done to ensure that FICAC secures files for its investigations.
He also said that they have secured a court order from the Magistrates Court to get the necessary documents.
Commodore Bainimarama also said the board has already sent Banuve on leave and further decisions are expected soon.
Interim Finance Minister, Mahendra Chaudhry who has returned from Brussels is expected to advise the board to ask Banuve to resign later today.
However FIRCA Officers and Staff Association General Secretary, Kenneth Zinck said they strongly oppose the call for Banuve's resignation as he was only doing his job.
Zinck said those who are calling for Banuve's resignation due to his uncompromising move to reveal tax details of a taxpayer, should understand the laws and nature of work that covers the operations of the Inland Revenue Services.
According to Zinck, Banuve has been requested to break the laws of the country by surpassing the confidential clause in the Income Tax Act and VAT Decree which has direct legal consequences for future liability claims against FIRCA for breaching the clause.
They have also called on the interim government to use the powers vested with the Minister of Finance in the Income Tax Act and VAT Decree to demand specific taxpayers information from the CEO.
Meanwhile, Zinck has also questioned as to who had signed the court order. Stay with us we will have more in the next hour.
