Interim PM hits out at Downer
In an exclusive interview with Village News, Commodore Bainimarama has hit out at the Australian Foreign Minister, Alexander Downer for saying that they never intended to use military force against Fiji.
Bainimarama said he received a call from the Australian Defense Force Chief that proves that there were plans to send troops to Fiji.
Bainimarama said it was also evident just days before December 5th that the Australian troops had some plans in the pipeline.
Australia Foreign Affairs Minister, Alexander Downer had earlier brushed aside allegations that the Australian government had intended to order Australian troops to enter Fiji's territory and intervene during the December 5th takeover.
Meanwhile, the Fiji Human Rights Commission reports to the UN Human Rights Commissioner stated President Josefa Iloilo was kept in the dark about the looming presence of the Australian naval taskforce just outside the Fiji waters in late November and he was not informed about the Prime Minister's request to Australia and NZ for foreign intervention.
