The Interim Prime Minister has slammed the Former Prime Minister Laisenia Qarase's comments regarding the retirement age issue.

Commodore Frank Bainimarama said Qarase should charged with contempt of court as he is making comments on the suitability or otherwise of a government policy which is now before the court.

Bainimarama said Qarase should be aware that the Supreme Court has granted a stay order on civil servants retirement age to remain at 60, until the matter is further brought before the court.

He said he can enlighten the Former Prime Minister on the reasons behind Government's decision but he will not do so because the matter is now before the court.

He said they respect the independence of the judiciary and the due process of law should prevail.
