Interim Prime Minister Commodore Frank Bainimarama finally met the US Deputy Assistant Secretary for East Asia Pacific Affairs Glyn Davies, while in New York.

Bainimarama who refused to meet Davies when he came to Fiji earlier this year, said he was able to explain to Davies in detail, the reasons why he took over the government on 5th December and the progress the interim government is making in taking Fiji forward.

He said he took the opportunity to update him on the preparatory work underway in Fiji and the return to parliamentary democracy and the proposal to form a National Council for Building a Better Fiji.

Bainimarama said he found the meeting very productive although the US government has continued to maintain a strong stand against the action he took. He said he invited Davies to visit Fiji and see first hand the situation on the ground and the progress the interim administration has made so far.
