The Interim Prime Minister has joined the bandwagon in support of Earth Hour tonight from 8 to 9 o'clock on global action on climate change.

Commodore Frank Bainimarama requests all households and businesses to turn off their lights and non-essential electrical appliances for one hour to promote electricity conservation and thus lowering carbon emissions.

He said our environment is our future and caring for our environment is everyone's responsibility and by participating in the Earth Hour initiative we will be playing our part in protecting our environment.

Meanwhile, Permanent Secretary PM's Office, Parmesh Chand said while civil servants need to be mindful and vigilant in their usage and operation of electrical equipment in the office, they will strive to continue to switch off all electrical equipment each working day.

In less than 12 hours, Earth Hour is to begin with a lot of houses and businesses nationwide expected to switch off their lights for one hour between 8-9 0'clock tonight in trying to reduce greenhouse gas emissions.
