The Interim Finance Minister has clarified that the interim ministers' pay is 25 percent less than the ministers' pay in the Laisenia Qarase led government.

Mahendra Chaudhry said the interim ministers came in on a reduced pay when they took up office and that is the reason why they did not have to take the 5 percent pay cut imposed on civil servants.

He has also hit out at the Fiji Public Service Association General Secretary Rajeshwar Singh for telling his members in a recent meeting that the interim ministers did not have a pay cut.

Meanwhile, SDL National Director Peceli Kinivuwai said the interim government should find alternative source of income and not victimize those already facing financial problems.

He said the interim cabinet ministers, as civil servants not having their pay cut by 5%, is unfair and therefore is victimization.
