The Interim Government remains optimistic that an agreement will be reached with Amalgamated Telecom Holdings Limited within the next few weeks to allow other mobile phone company's to start operations in the country.
Interim Communications Minister Taito Waradi told Village news that they have scrutinized the 15 applications received for mobile phone service license, however they can not make a decision as yet.
However, ATH Chief Executive Officer Tomasi Vakatora said it may be a bit optimist to believe that the compensation issue would be settled within weeks.
ATH is seeking compensation in return for the exclusive licenses held by Vodafone Fiji, FINTEL and Telecom Fiji Limited which restricts other companies from operating in the country.
