Interim Attorney General Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum has welcomed the Fiji Court of Appeal's ruling on the stay order filed against Pacific Center for Public Integrity’s Angie Heffernan case.

Justice John Byrne ruled yesterday that the stay of proceedings granted by the Court of Appeal to the Interim Prime Minister, Commodore Frank Bainimarama, the Military and the Interim Attorney General should remain in place until their appeal against the ruling of Justice Singh is heard by the full Court of Appeal.

Justice Byrne has dismissed the submissions made by Dr. Cameron on behalf of Heffernan, including his application that Justice Byrne should excuse himself from hearing this matter.

Dr. Cameron's submissions have been strongly criticised by the Judge even to the extent that his submissions are a clear example of contempt.

Meanwhile, Sayed-Khaiyum said this ruling is a lesson for other lawyers.

The Judge also indicated that in light of the allegations made by Dr.Cameron, he intents to send a copy of this ruling to the Fiji Law Society, presumably for necessary action by the Society against Dr. Cameron.
