The Fiji Law Society said the Interim Attorney General is using complaints received against lawyers as an excuse to introduce an office of the Independent Legal Services Commission.
Isireli Fa said Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum is using the complaints to try and interfere with the laws being followed by the Fiji Law Society.
Sayed-Khaiyum announced yesterday that the Independent Legal Services Commission will investigate complaints against lawyers and which will be responsible for taking disciplinary action against them.
Fa said they are opposed to the move because the Interim Government does not have the legal authority to bring about these changes to the Legal Practitioners Act adding that any such changes must be left to a parliament.
Fa adds they will challenge the decision in court.
