The Interim Attorney General made a mistake in the naming of the Chairperson for the Constituency Boundaries Commission, and thus Adi Koila Nailatikau is no longer the Chairperson of the commission as was announced yesterday.

In a press conference this afternoon, Interim Attorney General Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum said he regrets the oversight.

Reference was made to Section 77 of the Constitution whereby it states that a person appointed to the Constituency Boundaries Commission must not have, at anytime during the immediate past four years, been a member of either house of parliament or a local authority or representative body prescribed by parliament.

Adi Koila Nailatikau was a Senator last year.

However, Sayed-Khaiyum said that on Tuesday previous Chairperson appointed, Ulamila Fa - Tuituku gave in her letter, the next day they appointed Adi Koila Nailatikau and this quick appointment should be an indication of how important the appointment of a Chairperson of the commission is.
