The government is now speaking to a number of people who are interested in getting gambling licenses in Fiji.

Permanent secretary at the Prime Minister's Office Lieutenant Colonel Pio Tikotikodua said they have received expressions of interest from a number of people after the Gaming Decree was approved by cabinet last month.

He said decisions on the license approvals will be made after assessing whether the interested parties will comply with all the requirements.

Meanwhile, Fijivillage has received information that former Thai Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra is also interested in setting up a business in Fiji.

However, details are expected to be released later.

Shinawatra visited Fiji a few months ago and had a meeting with Prime Minister Commodore Voreqe Bainimarama.
