The Government has now taken another step to improve competition which will bring benefits to the people of Fiji.
The Commerce Commission has been rigorously evaluating this since May this year, on the level of existing or likely competition in the relevant markets, for the whole sale provision of interconnection services in Fiji.
Attorney General, Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum yesterday signed a price control order following the Commerce Commission's submission to set and regulate prices of any wholesale service including interconnection service.
Sayed-Khaiyum gave one example.
Early this week Government revoked a proposal from the PIB to include the 24 items under the Counter Inflation Act by the end of this month.
146 items have also been removed from price surveillance, and this is to ensure that competition determines the best prices for consumers.
The Attorney General said more can be achieved both for consumers and businesses with competition which is now evident in Fiji's telecommunications sector.
