The changes made in the interchange rule in the World Sevens Series is good for Fiji.
Those are the words of Vodafone Fiji 7s coach Ben Ryan on the new rules on substitution that has come into effect during the Dubai 7s last year.
A lot of teams have benefitted from the new interchange rule and Ryan says that this rule has also been a big help to Fiji.
Ryan adds that he suggested to World Rugby about the need to change the rules of interchanges.
The new rule is done so that a team should not be put at a disadvantage with regard to the number of replacements available to them when losing a player to injury that resulted directly from foul play by the opposition.
Some of the coaches proposed that this will avoid the unfair situation, under certain circumstances, where a team has to continue to play with 6 players when losing a player to injury resulting from foul play.
Ryan says that this can be another tactical tool that the coaches can use.
Meanwhile Fijivillage observed that this rule was also being used during the Bayleys Fiji Coral Coast 7s last weekend.
Ryan will be announcing his 14 players to the Wellington and Sydney 7s tomorrow.
The Wellington 7s will be held next Saturday and Sunday.
