Elesi Nasau of Ballantine Memorial School did her school proud this morning after she broke the Intermediate Girls Triple Jump record in the Suva Zone 1 currently underway at the ANZ Stadium.
Nasau’s new record is 9.60 metres while the old record was 9.35 metres set by Litia Salabogi of Basden College back in 2010.
Nasau failed to participate in the Coca-Cola Games last year when she was at Tavua College and is looking forward to winning her first gold medal at this year’s Fiji finals.
Meanwhile, another athlete who stamped his mark today was Avisha Lal of MGM who jumped 4.82 metres to break the Sub Junior Boys Long Jump record.
The old zone record was 4.62 metres set last year by Misaele Moceivunisea of Assemblies of God High School.
Lal said this is his first year in high school and he has never taken part in athletics.
Meanwhile, Nasinu Secondary School’s sprinter Apisai Dokonibonu and Ratu Sukuna Memorial School’s hopeful Meli Turaganitoga are expected to tussle again in the senior boys 100 metres final this afternoon.

The Suva Zone 1 Senior Boys record is 10.42 seconds which was set by John Lum Kon of Ratu Sukuna Memorial School back in 2000.
