Former President of the Fiji Law Society believes that critics of the proposed peoples charter are bogged down on the legality of the process rather taking a good look at the draft charter and its intentions to improve the lives of the people.
Devinesh Sharma told Fijivillage that while there are legal difficulties on how the proposed changes to the constitution and electoral act would be undertaken, the intentions of the document are noble.
According to Sharma, the interim government will bring about the changes through its own means, but those who do not like it should seek redress through the courts.
However, Sharma maintains that any changes to the constitution and the electoral act must be confined within the boundaries of the 97 Constitution.
