The Land Transport Authority has confirmed that inspection of buses is done every six months and the next round of checks will be conducted soon.
LTA Spokesperson, Ratu Eroni Volavola said the last check was done from December to February and the officers are gearing up to conduct the second round of checks.
He said officers from the Land Transport Authority visit bus depots and checks are conducted in the company garage.
According to Volavola, a lot of buses were declared unsafe and unfit to run on the road in the last inspection and company owners were told to take the necessary steps.
Meanwhile, officers from LTA Labasa and officers from the police force are inspecting the bus which went off the road and into a river in Naselesele, Bua on Saturday claiming the life of 72 year old Shiu Mangal.
According to eyewitnesses, there were some problems in the front tyre of the bus, however according to police the cause of the accident will be revealed after the investigations.
