Inspect buses thoroughly: NFA
The call comes after Chief Fire Officer Tupou Saubuliniyau said initial investigations into the bus fire in Makoi yesterday morning revealed the 64 seater bus was not fully inspected.
He believes the fire started from the engine compartment and the 25 passengers had to jump out of the windows to save their lives.
LTA has impounded the bus following the bus incident.
Meanwhile, with the implementation of the National Fire Service Decree, a committee will be set up to see to oversee the efficient delivery of fire services.
The National and Divisional Coordination Committees will have the function of assisting and coordinating water supply, fire safety and mitigation and emergency services for disaster management, to provide for planning and managing of fire safety and investigation as well as emergency services for disaster management and prevention.
The Committee will be chaired by the Permanent Secretary of Local Government as well as ten members who are appointed by the Minister.
There will also be Divisional Coordination Committees for the Central, Eastern, Western and Northern Division.
