Inmates briefed on termite infestation
The awareness session, which took place at the Natabua and Ba prisons, was conducted by bio-security officer, Nilesh Chand and Community Policing officer Sergeant Benedito Bola.
Chand said it was important everyone, including those confined at correctional facilities, be made aware of the termite infestation occurring in various areas around Lautoka.
He told inmates that the infestation was a bio-security matter and a national issue.
Speaking in Fijian to the inmates, Sergeant Bola said it was important they purchase only treated timber should they plan to build their houses upon release.
The inmates were also made aware that the infestation also carried implications on export crops such as cassava and pawpaw, adding the target on food sources was now a big concern for Government.
Operation Kadivuka applauds the efforts of staff and management of the correctional facilities for their efforts to educate inmates on the infestation.
Such enthusiasm is in the true spirit of the Yellow Ribbon Campaign which focuses on Giving a Second Chance.
