Suva Grammar School’s long distance runner Inia Sili has been awarded a 2 year scholarship to study in the United States.
Coach Jone Delai said this ongoing scholarship is fully funded by the Oceania National Olympic Committee where senior students get chosen based on academic and sports performance to go and study abroad.
Sili who is from Wailevu, Savusavu, is currently staying with his relatives in Suva.
He moved to Grammar from Shree Gurunanak Khalsa Secondary School in the North.
Sili was the lone Senior Boy’s athlete for Grammar in this year’s Coca-Cola Games.
Suva Grammar Ex-Students Association member Selina Kuruleca said they will carefully monitor Sili and make sure that he is safe there.
He was also provided with some financial assistance by the Association for the Pacific Games.
Sili is expected to leave the country in mid-August.
He will take part in the 800 metres and 1,500 metres events in the Pacific Games in Papua New Guinea next month.
