The Bureau of Statistics has today confirmed the inflation rate in the country for last month stood at 7.4 percent, which is at its highest level in a decade.

The Department said the inflation rate is expected to continue to rise, pushing prices of goods and services higher.

According to the Statistics Department, the rate can be controlled if government comes up with some plans to control at least some product prices.

The Prices and Incomes Board confirmed this morning, that with butter prices increasing from today, another increase in fuel prices expected within weeks and wheat prices are now at an all time high due to supply shortages.

The PIB confirms that reviews of the fuel and wheat prices are expected soon with increases expected across the board.

Meanwhile, the Fijian Teachers Association has today demanded the Interim Government pay the four percent pay cut to civil servants.

General Secretary, Maika Namudu said the Government should now come up with a plan to ease the burden on the people.
