Tui Tavua, Ratu Ovini Bokini said Indo-Fijian fishermen are being charged $1,000 for a license as it goes according to what is earned by the fishermen in one week.

Ratu Bokini also said that Fijian fishermen are only charged $100 because they are the traditional owners of the fishing grounds.

Speaking to Village News, Ratu Bokini said this decision was not based on race adding that he is concerned that Citizens Constitutional Forum Director, Reverend Akuila Yabaki is trying to bring up the race card in their decision on the charges.

Ratu Bokini said that Yabaki should have met with them before making any comments as they have charge the fees based on the income the fishermen are getting from fishing in their waters.

Earlier this week, CCF Director Akuila Yabaki had released a press statement saying that what the Tavua Navy Seals are doing is racial discrimination saying that even though the Qoliqoli Bill has not been passed qoliqoli owners are exploiting the other races by charging them with high license fees.
