People have been asked to prepare themselves for heavy rain and strong winds as we are expected to feel the indirect effects of an approaching Tropical Depression from the far North West of the country later today.

The Nadi Weather office said that at 4am today the Tropical Depression was located 1,500 kilometers to the West-North-West of Nadi.

It is currently slow moving but expected to move South in the next 24 hours before turning southeast.

Although the system is not expected to directly affect Fiji at this stage due to the direction its taking and the distance, people are expected to experience strong winds and increasing rain starting from today.

Rain will be heavy at times over the country with possibly strong and gusty northwest winds and squally thunderstorms.

There is still a moderate possibility of the system becoming a cyclone in the next 24 hours.

Stay with us for updates.
