The Nadi Weather Office has confirmed that there is very little possibility for Tropical Cyclone Funa turning east and directly hitting Fiji.

Director Rajendra Prasad sayid the western and south-western parts of the country will only experience winds up to 55km/h with momentary gusts up to 80km/h. He said the indirect effect of the cyclone is expected from later today as heavy rain in Nadi, Lautoka and Ba is also forecast which could cause flash flooding.

At 11 o'clock this morning, the tropical cyclone was located over 650 km west of Nadi and is turning south-east at 12 knots or 22 km/h and is expected to turn southwards later tonight. Prasad has advised mariners not to go out to sea as a gale force wind warning is issued for the western and southern Fiji waters.
