The Fiji Indigenous Bussiness Council believes that a number of businesses will shut down within the next three months if there is no sign of a turn around in the economy.
FIBC President Uliasi Taoi told Village News that despite various positive reports by the Reserve Bank of Fiji, Indigenous Fijian businesses are struggling to survive.
Taoi said they expect things to worsen.
The Fiji Retailers Association President Himmat Lodhia said earlier that many businesses are now operating on survival mode and are running in a loss.
However, the Reserve Bank of Fiji maintains that measures being taken by the bank and the interim government are working to turn the country around.
RBF Governor Savenaca Narube said in the current circumstances, they are comfortable with the mix of policies introduced since December with positive outcomes in various sectors and things are expected to improve in the months ahead.
Meanwhile, Fiji Employers Federation Chief Executive Ken Roberts said he will comment later on the matter.
