Indian authorities arrest 6 Indian nationals
Director Immigration, Major Nemani Vuniwaqa confirms that the group were deported to India over the weekend and he has received reports that they have been arrested.
According to Vuniwaqa, the group was arrested included six Indian nationals arrested earlier this month for using fake passports include a pregnant lady and a six year old child.
The group used fake British and Canadian passports to enter Fiji and were on their way to New Zealand when they were arrested.
According to the Times of India, a man and his wife were arrested from IGI Airport on Monday for cheating, human trafficking and facilitating illegal immigration of passengers to Canada.
India Police say Jasbir Singh and wife Gurdeep Kaur had been detained in Fiji while trying to assist a couple in travelling to Canada on forged papers.
They were brought to Delhi on Sunday after the Indian High Commission in Fiji intervened.
Vuniwaqa adds that the Department has now received a list of all expired passports and it will now be harder for people to enter Fiji using fake documents.
