The government of India has provided more than $158,000 for the purchase of 125 water tanks that will be installed at various Primary and Secondary schools in rural areas.

The beneficiary schools are located in Ba, Tavua, Lautoka, Yasawa, Nadroga, Navosa, Ra, Cakaudrove, Macuata, Bua and Nausori.

Outgoing Indian High Commissioner, Professor Prabhakar Jha said this project will help many schools in rural and urban centres that have been affected by water shortages over the years.

He stressed that this will also protect school children from the outbreak of water-borne diseases.
