The Indian Government has expressed great sadness at the recent floods in Fiji and has contributed $US100,000 to the Interim Government.

While presenting the cheque to the Interim Prime Minister Commodore Frank Bainimarama, India's High Commissioner to Fiji Professor Prabhakar Jha also handed over a letter of sympathy from the Prime Minister of India Manmohan Singh.

In his letter, Singh conveyed his sympathies on behalf of his government and the people of India to the people of Fiji affected by the recent floods as they begin the difficult task of reconstructing their lives.

The money given by the Indian Government will go into the Prime Minister's National Disaster Relief and Rehabilitation Fund to help supplement the relief efforts by the Interim Government.
