Independent Monitoring Report Useful
In an interview with Fijivillage, NCBBF's media committee members Desmond Whiteside and Lorine Tevi said the Independent Monitoring Group's recommendation that regular reports be provided on the People's Charter process work to Fiji's aid partners, is a good one.
However, the two said it may be noted that some of Fiji's major external development partners have chosen it fit not to support this initiative adding that despite this, the Council are going to provide their bilateral and multilateral partners with more regular information. They said the NCBBF Co-Chairs will seriously consider if representatives of the Diplomatic Corp should be allowed as observers at NCBBF meetings.
The NCBBF media committee added they are happy with the IMG's first report as it demonstrates the independence of the IMG by it being balanced, critical and constructive in its comments and suggestions.
The three members appointed by the President, Chairman Geert Van Der Linden, Reverend Caroline Amy Chambers and Robin Nair, had stated in their report that the lack of effort by those involved in the People's Charter process, in providing regular updates to its overseas counterparts, has at times led to misunderstandings and misapprehensions. The three member group was also impressed by the quality and seriousness of the discussions that took place at an NCBBF meeting held on 15th April this year.
