Serious concerns have been raised on the increasing number of HIV AIDS cases in Fiji and Health Ministry officials are calling on people to take action and prevent the spread of the deadly virus.
The latest statistics show 21 new HIV reported cases for this year as at the month of June bringing the total number of cases to 354.
Health Ministry's Assistant Media Liaison Officer, Peni Namotu said this includes three new infections.
Namotu said the Ministry wants everyone including religious organisations, teachers and parents to take action and step up to ensure that people take preventative measures.
The National Advisory Committee on AIDS headed by Health Minister, Doctor Neil Sharma said they need to strengthen the secretariat in ensuring the divisional committees in the country are running and implementing activities stated in the Fiji HIV AIDS Strategic Plan 2007 to 2011.
The ministry also said a timely sex education lesson at home may just prevent an unwanted pregnancy and its associated burdens.
It also said the school system must take sex education and HIV AIDS awareness programs to younger children.
It said it is important that the young receive the warning as early as possible.
