The number of tourists coming into the country increased last year when compared to 2007 from the January to November.

The Bureau of Statistics record shows that visitors from the Pacific Islands recorded an increase of 4.1% bringing the total to 32,733 while the figure was 31,456 in 2007.

An increase was also noted in the number of tourists from New Zealand which recorded a figure of 93,971 last year compared to 93,124 in 2007 while 223,175 visitors came to our shores last year from Australia compared to 184,099 in 2007 which is an increase of 21.2%.

However decreases for November 2008 were recorded for visitors from South Korea, Japan, United Kingdom, United States, Taiwan and Canada.

The January to November 2008 visitor arrivals showed a 9.2% increase over 2007 which is up from 489,847 to 534,755.
