The Public Service Commission says the increase in the overseas Per Diem for Suva City Councillors should not be questioned because it is the United Nations that make the changes.
PSC Permanent Secretary, Taina Tagicakibau says the increase might have come in place because of the change in the cost of living in overseas countries.
The Suva Lord Mayor, Peni Volavola yesterday defended the increase in the overseas Per Diem for its' councillors.
According to the minutes of the City Council's meeting, the Per Dium for London has been increased to 423 US dollars a day compared to the previous allowance of 209 US dollars a day. The Per Dium for Australia has been increased to 283 US dollars which was previously 164 US dollars.
