Paid employment in the hotel sector increased to 13,830 in the third quarter of last year which is an increase of 8.7% compared to the same period in 2014.
This is according to the provisional hotels and tourist accommodation statistics for the third quarter of last year.
The overall takings which includes takings from accommodation, sale of food, liquor, telephone and other miscellaneous charges also increased to $300.1 million in the third quarter of last year which is an increase of 9.8%.
According to the Fiji Bureau of Statistics, room occupancy rate also increased by 3.7% for this period.
Meanwhile, it has also been revealed that in the 3rd quarter of last year, majority of visitors to the Coral Coast, Nadi and the Mamanuca area were from Australia.
A large number of visitors from the USA stayed in the Northern area and other islands including Kadavu.
Majority of visitors staying in hotels around the Suva area were from Japan and Pacific Island countries.
