There will be significant increase in the price of Rewa Butter effective from tomorrow after the new prices were approved by the Prime Minister and Minister for Finance Commodore Voreqe Bainimarama

The price of the 125 gram of Rewa butter increases from $0.99 to $1.37. The price of the 250grams of butter increases from $1.84 to $2.71 while the price of the 500gram butter increases from $3.55 to $5.40.

The Prices and Incomes Board said this reflect that the wholesale and retail prices of local butter will increase by 52%.

The PIB said the substantial increase in price reflects the escalating dairy product prices in the world market which subsequently results in high import cost of bulk butter, the major raw material for local butter.

The PIB said consumers should also expect subsequent increase in price of milk powder.

Consumers are also advised that the prices will differ in other centers due to additional delivery and cartage charges.
