There hve been a total of 5 fires reported this month alone with over 108 in total from the West in the last six months.

National Fire Authority Chief Fire Officer Mark Reid said with the current dry weather spell, reports of fires have been increasing at varios stations.

In an interview with Fijivillage, Reid revealed that there are various cases where the fires could have been prevented if the household had practiced safety measures.

Many of the reported cases were due to children playing with matches there were even cases where lit candles were left unattended.

The latest fires reported were the incident at Nadi International Airport on Saturday where the ceiling for the arrival lounge caught fire and in Ba where four people were left homeless after their home was burnt to the ground.
