The Consumer Council of Fiji is calling on the interim government to increase duty on tax of unhealthy food items to curb the increasing number of non-communicable diseases.
Chief Executive Premilla Kumar said by increasing tax on unhealthy food items it can help cut down the cost of medical expenditure for the government.
Kumar added in the proposal which they have put forward in the budget, they have also highlighted the need to remove duty from basic household items.
