Interim Finance and Sugar Minister, Mahendra Chaudhry stresses that incentives need to be provided to cane farmers who have left farming in Vanua Levu following the non renewal of their leases.
While Chaudhry welcomes the Tui Macuata's statement that they are ready to renew the farming leases for the benefit of the landowners, farmers and the sugar industry, he said the government needs to play its part to ensure that the farmers return to Vanua Levu.
Chaudhry said plans are also in place to ensure that the agriculture industry is boosted with escalating global food prices.
