The inaugural Air Pacific flight from Nadi to Hong Kong was at the weekend overshadowed by a trade dispute between the airline management and the cabin crew over their accommodation while in Hong Kong.
Transport Workers Unions General Secretary Kamlesh Kumar said the cabin crew stayed at a hotel in Hong Kong under protest claiming that an agreement between the two parties has been breached.
Kumar said they decided not to let the dispute get in the way of the occasion.
Air Pacific Managing Director John Cambell said the Company does not discuss industrial relations and refused to comment on the matter.
Meanwhile, the trade dispute between the Union and Air Pacific has been lodged with the Labour Ministry and is expected to be heard in early 2010.
Prime Minister Commodore Voreqe Bainimarama and his wife, Information Permanent Secretary Lieutenant Colonel Neumi Leweni and his wife, Defence Minister Ratu Epeli Ganilau and Adi Ateca Ganilau, Senior Military Officer Acting Land Force Commander Ratu Tevita Uluilakeba and his wife as well as Waisele Serevi, Air Pac CEO and Managing Director John Campbell were on the inaugural flight.
