In-discipline costs Fiji
The Iliesa Tanivula coached side lost their opening pool match to Wales last night by 17-12.
Discipline cost Fiji the match after Osea Kolinisau was sin-binned in the second half.
Fiji led 12-0 with tries from Setefano Cakau and Nasoni Roko but Wales had upper hand when Kolinisau was sent off and they took full advantage of it and caused the biggest upset of the day.
Fiji 7s Manager Jope Tuivanuavou said the players just didn’t click yesterday and they are expecting to bounce back today.
Meanwhile Wales 7s Coach Paul John said they were more settled than Fiji
Fiji, today will face Papua New Guinea at 5:29pm and their last pool match will be against Kenya at 9:56pm.
A loss in any of this two game will see them crash out of the tournament.
Meanwhile in other games played yesterday, in Pool A World Series leaders New Zealand scored five tries in a comfortable opening 31 0 win against Scotland while Argentina beat Tonga 19-17.
In Pool B, last month's USA Sevens champions Samoa won their first match against France by 33-12.
Defending champions South Africa also started well with a 40 0 win against Asia's top side Japan.
And Pool D Usa caused the upset by beating England 24-21 and hosts Australia then overwhelmed Niue 40 5 in the final match of the day.
The Australia 7s tournament will start at 4:45pm, with the opening match between Samoa and Japan.
