The ongoing work of the Water Authority Leak Detection Units has seen an improvement to the supply to Labasa areas.

WAF Team Leader Corporate Communications Michelle Tevita Singh said detecting leaks and repairing them is one of their major operational objectives, with units set up in all the major centers to identify and repair leaks immediately.

Singh said following such an exercise in Labasa, supply and pressure has increased significantly as unaccounted for water that is usually lost through leakage is maintained in the system.

She said the exercise began in April and was carried out in the cane belt areas of Tuatua, Lajonia, Nasekula, Yaka Street, Namara, West Siberia and Batinikama.

The work according to Singh, involved identifying visible and invisible leaks that are underground through the step test and sounding processes.

Singh adds leak detection units have been set up in all the major centers to identify and repair leaks immediately.
