The National Fire Authority believes improper inspections on the bus resulted in the bus catching fire in Makoi this morning.
Chief Fire Officer, Tupou Saubulinayau said initial investigation reveals the fire started in the engine compartment.
He said they received a call around 8.30am and by the time they reached the scene near the Makoi service station some bystanders had put the fire out using buckets of water.
He said there were two fire extinguishers in the bus which was not used by the driver.
Officials are currently inspecting the bus as the bus has been seized by LTA after the incident. About 25 passengers and the driver of the bus had to jump out of the burning bus to save themselves.
