The Vodafone Fiji Sevens team ran in nine tries from nine different try scorers and nine successful conversions to thrash Canada 63‑14 in their first pool match of the Dubai Sevens.

Fiji scored five impressive tries in the first half to take a 35‑0 lead at the break.

Pio Tuwai was in impressive form as two of his offloads led to a try from Jasa Veremalua and Jerry Tuwai.

The national sevens team was also clinical when contesting kick‑offs.

Fiji then scored four more tries in the second half.

Debutant Sevulogi Mocenacagi also had his first try in the series while Vatemo Ravouvou registered 23 individual points in the match for scoring a try and kicking nine conversions.

Canada's two tries came in the second half.

Speaking after the match, Coach Ben Ryan said their aim was to control possession in the match and it worked out well for them.

Fiji will take on Japan at 9pm before facing Argentina at 3.28am tomorrow.

The Cup quarterfinals will start at 8 pm tomorrow, Cup semis will start at 1.41am Sunday while the Cup final will be at 4.48am Sunday.
