The interim government has decided to defer the implementation of the Job Evaluation Report completely due to the financial constraints it’s facing.
The Deputy Secretary for Information, Major Neumi Leweni said the report has been approved by the Interim cabinet however it will not be implemented meaning none of the civil servants will receive a pay increase.
The Public Service Commission had issued a circular last week to all the ministries and Departments that the Job Evaluation report has been implemented which will see some public servants getting a payrise.
This prompted the Unions to file a trade dispute demanding that all the civil servants be paid across the board.
The Permanent Secretary for PSC Taina Tagicakibau said she is still looking into the matter and does not want to make any comments now.
The General Secretary of the Fiji Teachers Union, Agni Deo Singh said the interim government has once again failed to do its job.
The Public Employees Union has echoed FTU's sentiments asking the interim government to relook into its decision.
The Acting General Secretary Viliame Kautia said they understand the situation the country is in however most of their members are living below the poverty line and they should be given a pay rise. He said they have also lodged a trade dispute regarding the implementation of the JER and are waiting for the decision.
