A Referral Supervisor of the Immigration Department from Nadi who is charged with allegedly accepting a bribe from a businessman has been remanded in custody by the Suva High court.
39 year old Josateki Toga is alleged to have accepted $500 as well as a new Nokia mobile phone from a Stephen Mallerich.
Toga is also alleged to have uplifted travel history of Mohammad Fanam Ali from the Immigration Department.
He was granted bail by Nadi Magistrate Saimoni Naivalu however FICAC appealed the decision and have applied for a stay on the bail.
High Court Judge Justice Daniel Gounder will rule on Tuesday on whether Toga can be granted bail and will also review whether Magistrate Saimoni Naivalu was wrong in granting bail to Toga.
Gounder ordered that the suspect be remanded till Tuesday and his wife, lawyer and religious leaders allowed to visit him.
The case will be called once again this Tuesday.
